"You took away a beautiful soul..." | Vigil held for Chesapeake Teenager who lost his life to gun violence

Family and friends described 15-year-old Tishaun Oliver as a talented football player, a loving son, and light to all he met.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — On Thursday night, the community held a candlelight vigil to honor the life of a Chesapeake teenager who was shot and killed over the weekend.

Two men and 15-year-old Tishuan Oliver were found by police with gunshot wounds Sunday night and were taken to the hospital where Oliver passed away.

Family and friends described Tishaun Oliver as a talented football player, a loving son, and light to all he met.

“He was Mister Everything. You know what I mean? And he would make sure you knew he could do everything,” said Indian River High School coach Brandon Carr.

Coach Carr said that Oliver played every position on the football team and altered between the Junior and Varsity squads.

But on Sunday, January 21st, Oliver’s life was tragically cut short. Police say Oliver and two men were shot in the MacDonald Manor Apartment complex. Oliver died at the hospital, and the other two men were injured, according to police.

Oliver’s uncle encouraged people to honor his nephew’s life and not seek retaliation.

Meanwhile, Oliver’s mother, Vivian Waddler, offered comforting hugs to crying students. However, she had a message for the person who stole her son’s life.

“You took away a beautiful soul; that’s something you have to live with for the rest of your life, and I hope you see his face every day. You remember my son’s name. You say my son’s name, Tishaun Oliver. Remember the name, Tishaun Oliver,” said Oliver’s mother, Vivian Waddler.
