15-year-old boy dies and two men injured after shooting in Chesapeake

Police say they responded to the 1300 block of Macdonald Road around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. When police got to the scene they found an injured boy and 2 men.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A boy has died and two men are injured after a shooting in Chesapeake on Sunday night.

Chesapeake police say that they responded to the 1300th block of Macdonald Road which is off of Indian River Road around 7:30 p.m. for a report of an injured person. When police got to the scene they found a 15-year-old boy and two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both men and the boy were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The 15-year-old victim died at the hospital. One of the men is in critical condition and the other was treated for a non-life-threatening wound.

"I just heard gunshots close to my house,” said a woman who did not want to be identified.

The woman lives at MacDonald Manor and said the gunshots prompted her to rush outside to help two of the victims hurt in a shooting on Macdonald Road.

“It was so scary," she said. "My mother instincts made me run over there because I heard the baby screaming. I heard one of the men screaming.”

She said another neighbor tried saving the 15-year-old boy’s life. Neighbors at MacDonald Manor said they saw the boy often in the community.

“He was a good kid," she said. "He wasn’t out here causing any trouble. He was really sweet. He was one of the kids that would make you smile.”

Neighbors said the teen walked through the complex to go to school and return home. They said he had some friends in the area and would play with them.

“With his backpack on and his Crocs on," the woman said. "He would be coming from practice or coming from the rec.”

She said she and many others are heartbroken.

“My nephew is 15," she said. "My sister is 15. So, it hits close to home. And they’re friends. I feel for them.”

The incident is under investigation. Police did not release any suspect information.
