NORFOLK, Va. — No doubt you’ve been hearing about the increasing heat over the central and eastern United States. Heat can be very hazardous to human health and is the number one weather-related killer.
While much of the country has already dealt with rising temperatures, Hampton Roads hasn’t been bad at all. Not yet.
Things will be changing within the coming week. But for now, what gives?

For all of us blessed to be living along the coast, a pleasant onshore flow is keeping our temperatures very manageable.
High pressure has been anchored northeast of Hampton Roads on the northeast U.S. coast. The clockwise winds around the high have provided a gentle east wind. With coastal water temperatures in the mid-70s, daytime highs Wednesday will range from the lower 80s near the coast to mid-80s in the metro, and mid to upper 80s farther inland.
As the high-pressure center drifts east southeast and gets a little closer to Bermuda, our winds will shift to the southeast Wednesday night and Thursday. Temperatures will climb back into the upper 80s.
Temperatures will increase as more of a south wind builds on Friday and into the weekend.
Highs will be in the near 90s on Friday and then into the lower to mid-90s on Saturday and Sunday.
Humidity will increase as well. This weekend some places could find heat index values between 100-105.
There may be heat advisories issued this weekend. As you make your weekend plans, keep the threat of dangerous heat and humidity in mind.
