The 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season doesn't look like it will end early.
Monday night, the National Hurricane Center said Subtropical Storm Theta formed over the open northeast Atlantic Ocean.
It's a record-breaking 29th named storm of the season.
Theta is about 995 miles southwest of The Azores and has maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. As of the latest advisory, it's moving east at 12 mph.
The NHC said the system is forecast to keep moving east-northeast over the next 2-3 days. Slight strengthening is possible over the next 12-24 hours.
There is no threat to land as of Monday night.
The 2020 Atlantic Tropical Cyclone Season has now set the record for the most named with 29. The formation of Subtropical Storm Theta beat the previous busiest season of 28 named storms in 2005.
The 2020 season also holds the record for the most landfalling storms in the United States at 12. That's the average number of named storms each year.
