Tropical Depression Seven forms in the Atlantic, could become tropical storm by end of week

Tropical Depression 7 has formed and is centered very close to the coast of Africa.

Tropical Depression Seven formed in the Atlantic Ocean Wednesday.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is now tracking Tropical Depression Seven deep in the Atlantic, still very close to the coast of Africa.

The NHC's forecast suggests that the tropical depression could become Tropical Storm Gordon by this weekend. The current forecast cone has the storm still hundreds of miles from the Caribbean Sea by next workweek, and long range models show this storm making a hard turn to the north by the end of next week.

Of course, confidence in computer model outputs dwindle when you get toward the end of the forecast period, so we'll continue to track this system. However, there will be no direct local impacts from the tropics over the next seven days.
