NORFOLK, Va. — We’ve seen a string of hot weekends in Hampton Roads, and it looks like this weekend will continue the trend. Saturday saw another round of excessively hot temperatures and tropical humidity.
Saturday's high temperatures are expected to warm into the middle 90s, close to the record high of 97°, set back in 2002. Combined with dew points in the lower-middle 70s, “feels like” temperatures Saturday afternoon will climb around 110° for at least three consecutive hours.
FORECAST: Cranking up the heat and humidity
The risk for heat-related illnesses grows in these types of conditions so extra precautions may be necessary if you plan to spend extended periods of time outdoors this weekend.
Saturday's heat advisory came to an end at 8 p.m. And while it'll "cool off" for the next week, remember that it's still July so the weather will still be hot! With the long holiday weekend for many, pay attention to your body: stay hydrated and seek shade and air conditioning when possible.
Additionally, a weakening cold front will push into the area late on Saturday. This weakening front will help produce scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, meaning heavy rainfall and frequent lightning will be possible.
This front will drop temperatures back to seasonable temperatures on Sunday, near 90°.
