Most of Outer Banks, eastern North Carolina under severe thunderstorm watch

NORFOLK, Va. — Those on the Outer Banks of North Carolina should be on standby for potential severe weather Friday night.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a severe thunderstorm watch spanning most of the Outer Banks and eastern North Carolina, including Beaufort, Carteret, Dare, and Hyde counties, along with the nearby coastal waters.

The watch expires at 9 p.m.

According to NWS, a watch is when severe thunderstorms are possible in and near the watch area. People should be ready to act if and when a warning is issued.
