Closings and late openings across Hampton Roads, northeast North Carolina following severe storms

NORFOLK, Va. — While Tuesday's storms have moved away from Hampton Roads, many schools and government offices across the region are opening late Wednesday because of potential flooding, wind, and storm damage aftermath.

Continuing weather conditions and outages are impeding commutes and general building function on Wednesday. Thousands are still without power.

Most of Hampton Roads and the Eastern Shore were under a "marginal" risk of severe weather, but the Outer Banks and the northeastern region of North Carolina had a higher risk. Because repairs and weather conditions are still affecting the area, many schools and businesses are closing or opening early.

Virginia closures and delays

• Accomack County Public Schools: Wednesday will be a Virtual Learning Day, with 12-month employees reporting two hours late
• Charles City County Public Schools: Closed Wednesday
• Elizabeth River Ferry is suspended until 1 p.m. Wednesday.
• Franklin City Public Schools: Opening 2 hours late.
• Northampton County Schools: Virtual learning Day.
• St. Gregory the Great School: Opening 2 hours late.
• Southampton County Schools: Opening 2 hours late.
• Southwestern Elementary School: Closed Wednesday. 
• St. Gregory the Great School: Doors open at 9:30 a.m.
• St. John the Apostle Catholic School: Opening 2 hours late.
• Suffolk Christian Academy: Opening 2 hours late.
• Suffolk Public Schools: Opening 2 hours late.
• Virginia Beach City Public Schools: Opening 2 hours late.
• Virginia Beach General District Court: Opening 2 hours late.
• Virginia Beach JDR Court: Opens at 11:00 a.m.

• Edenton-Chowan Schools: Opening 2 hours late.
• College of the Albemarle: Opening late at 10:00 a.m.
• Currituck County Schools: Opening 2 hours late.
• Edenton-Chowan Schools: Opening 2 hours late.
• Elizabeth City - Pasquotank Public Schools: Closed on Wednesday.
• Gates County Schools: Closed Wednesday.
• Northeast Academy of Aerospace and Advanced Technologies: Closed on Wednesday.
