NORFOLK, Va. — Get ready for a rainy back half of the weekend, as a developing coastal storm system is expected to bring some nasty weather on Sunday.
An area of low pressure will develop and strengthen over the northeast Gulf of Mexico on Saturday. Locally, clouds will gradually increase through the day, with mostly cloudy skies by Saturday night.
Then on Sunday, the low-pressure center will move into the region from the south. Rain will overspread the area through the day, becoming steadier and heavier into the afternoon and evening.
Here's a look at a general timeline.
Rainfall between 1 and 3 inches is likely, with higher amounts possible, depending on the exact storm track.
In addition to the rain, gusty winds will develop into the afternoon and evening. Wind gusts above 40 mph are possible along the coast, with gusts of 30 to 40 mph away from the water. Highs will be in the lower to middle 60s.
Some minor tidal flooding is possible with this storm.
The rainy weather will continue into the workweek, with things finally starting to dry off after midday Monday.
