NORFOLK, Va. — After weeks without significant rain, it fell hard and fast on Thursday in Hampton Roads. Thursday night and Friday morning are even being considered a Weather Alert Day.
Roads were slick after the rain on Thursday night, but once it stops, still be cautious around flood-prone areas. Multiple cars were pulled over to the side of the street on Thursday night after hydroplaning, and many drivers stalled out while trying to drive through the deep standing water on Llewellyn Avenue.
Tidal flooding is an ongoing issue in Norfolk, which is why the city is opening up the "York Street Parking Garage" through Sunday for residents who need to move their cars out of flood-prone areas.

If you need to drive in the inclement weather, travelers are advised to take it slow, keep two hands on the wheel, and avoid standing water puddles on the road.
Some people are already planning ahead for Friday's commute.
"I guess [I will] just get up and leave earlier probably, so I don't have to speed to work," said Norfolk resident Trey Bachelor. "Kind of just staying in the right lane and letting other people pass me."
