Dominion Energy reported that a transmission tower has been struck by a barge in the Elizabeth River, according to the Chesapeake Fire Department.

The tower is located north of the Interstate 64 High Rise Bridge, and it is now sitting at an angle. The barge struck the tower because of elevated tides and high winds related to Monday's inclement weather.

At 11 a.m., Dominion Energy officials were assessing the damage, and other marine traffic was proceeding normally.

All power lines that go through the tower are still intact, and the lines can be rerouted if necessary for repairs.
