NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Tidal flooding took over parts of the city Sunday. Some homes were flooded, while others were in the clear. Flooding in Oceanview prevented people from getting home, or left them trapped.
Off 19th Bay Street Norfolk Fire and Rescue got people to safety.
Tidal flooding is new for Marcus Dijon, a Washington, D.C. transplant. His fears calmed after seeing other's reactions to the severe weather.
"People just enjoying themselves, they had boats out, and kayaks. So, once I saw that, I wasn't too nervous," he said.
In Larchmont, people also made the best of a tough situation. "It's good quality time, we have half the neighborhood here, dogs and kids from down the street, coming out just playing in the water a little bit. It's not the cleanest water in the world but a hot bath never hurt," said Jim Peterson.
Neighbors are glad the water didn't get any higher. At its peak it reached around six and a half feet. "We prepared for this but this is pretty much part of living on the water here in Larchmont. We're used to it," Peterson said
