NORFOLK, Va. — October has arrived in Hampton Roads, and it's when autumn weather really begins in full swing.

But what does a typical October look and feel like in the seven cities? Well, here’s what we can expect.

Temperature-wise, we start the month with cool nights in the lower 60s and comfortable afternoons with highs in the middle to upper 70s. But by the end of the month, those overnights turn crisp in the lower 50s and upper 40s, but still mild afternoon as highs try and climb into the upper 60s.

Here are some stats for the month:

The hottest temperature recorded in October was 95, and the coldest was 27.

On average, we see just under 4 inches of rainfall throughout October, with the wettest October ever occurring in 1971 when over 10 inches fell.

The biggest change that we will all see will be the faster pace of loss of daylight. We’re losing it at a rate of nearly 2 and a half minutes per day!

Just this month we will lose 1 hour and 7 minutes of daylight. You’ll also notice the sun coming up nearly 30 minutes later in the morning and setting about 40 minutes earlier in the evening.
