VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Grab your flip-flops! Slather on the sunblock! Get your favorite hat and coolest shades.

Ready or not, the beach season is here!

Now honestly, this won't be the best beach weekend ever, but we have reached the time of year when the beach days become more frequent, and long stretches of chilly days are behind us.

Looking for some proof? NOAA's National Weather Service office in Wakefield, Va. started issuing their daily beach forecasts this morning and will continue all the way until mid-October when it typically becomes colder and fewer people head to the sand.

You'll want to look for our beach forecast because it can differ significantly from the forecast for the rest of Hampton Roads and the Outer Banks.

Air temperatures can be significantly cooler, and it often can be windier than inland areas.

In addition to apparent weather and temperatures at the coast, the beach forecast we produce at 13News Now includes important information including the surf temperature, wave heights, rip current threats, and UV index information.

From time to time we may also include important messaging about significantly higher tides, or strange marine life activity.

Everything included in our beach forecasts and special featured stories is geared around keeping you informed and safe so that you and your family can enjoy our beautiful beaches.

We'll bring you the outlook each morning on 13News Now Daybreak and will also provide beach forecast information online and through our digital platforms.

Stay informed, stay safe, and have a great beach season!
