November average weather by the numbers

What climate to expect in Hampton Roads for the month of November.

NORFOLK, Va. — As we head into November, we finally start to feel the crisp, cooler air making its way into our area, as the high temperatures dip into the 60s and the upper 50s by the end of the month.

In early November, our average high temperature is around 67 degrees, but as we go throughout the month, we lose about 9 degrees from our average high and we dip to about 58 by the end of the month.

But we can also see extremely warm temperatures in the month of November. Like this year for example, our high for Nov. 1 is about 80 degrees, which is about 13 degrees above average. The hottest temperature ever recorded in the month of November here in Hampton Roads was 86 degrees.

For our low temperatures, this is when we can really see winter on the horizon. We normally start in the upper 40s, around 47 degrees but by the end of the month, we dip into the low 40s. The coldest low temperature every recorded during the month was 17 degrees.

You would think we might have a small chance of seeing some snow here in the month of November, but we actually average 0 inches of snow for the month.

Except way back in 1891, we saw 6.7 inches of snow in the month of November.

As for rainfall, we average about 3.10" of rain per month, and average about 9 rainy days.

One thing that is the most noticeable for most people is the sunset times. On Nov. 1, our sun sets at about 6:11 p.m., but this weekend we have the end of Daylight-Saving Time, so by the end of the month the sun sets here at 4:48 p.m.
