Preparing for a storm, Dominion Energy gives tour inside of mock storm training drill

Inside the Eastern Regional Operations Center, each pod team handles day-to-day operations, monitoring the electrical grid and responding to outages.

NORFOLK, Va. — At the heart of Dominion Energy's Eastern Regional Operations Center in Norfolk, crews diligently manage day-to-day operations. However, Dominion Energy recently conducted a crucial mock storm training drill to further support their preparedness.

“These drills are super important. You can do it in a stress-free environment. You don’t have to worry about there being a hundred people out, and it allows you to work out any kinks,” said Matt Hirschberg, Dominion Energy’s manager of the Eastern Regional Operations Center.

Each pod team at the operations center handles day-to-day operations, monitoring the electrical grid and responding to outages.

“That pod is responsible for the Norfolk location, Outer Banks, and Elizabeth City. Pod two is Chuckatuck and Chesapeake. Pod three in Virginia Beach and Ahoskie, and then we have pod four, which handles our Peninsula, Williamsburg, Aberlmarle office,” said Hirshberg.

While the National Weather Service predicts an above-normal hurricane season, the energy company is ready to respond and get your lights turned back on.

“Report it and then understand that we’re doing everything we can to get your power restored as quickly and as safely as possible. Our folks in the field work around the clock during storms to make sure the last customer is restored,” said Hirshberg.
