School closings, delays ahead of Hurricane Dorian

Several school districts across the 13News Now viewing area have either closed or issued delays.

VIRGINIA, USA — Ahead of Hurricane Dorian, several school districts across the 13News Now viewing area have either closed or issued delays.

Here's a break down of the closings.

North Carolina:

Albemarle School and Pre-school: All schools will on an early release schedule Thursday, September 5th. K-5 will release at 11:15, 6-12 will release at 11:30, and preschool will release at 12. There will be no After Care or school activities tomorrow. All schools will be closed on Friday, September 6th. There will be no Little Colt Volleyball games on Saturday.

Bertie County Schools: All Schools will be closed for students and staff on Thursday and Friday. Colerain, West Bertie, and Bertie High schools will be open as shelters starting at noon on Thursday, Sept. 5. 

Camden County Schools: Schools will be closed Tuesday through Friday. Officials continue to monitor Hurricane Dorian and partner with Camden County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service 

Dare County Schools: Closed for all students and staff beginning Wednesday, September 4 through Friday, September 6. 

Edenton-Chowan Schools: Schools will be closed on Thursday, September 5 and Friday, September 6 for all students and staff.

Gates County Schools & New Beginnings Daycare: On Thursday, Sept 5 there will be an Early Dismissal at 12 noon. On Friday, Sept 6, schools will be CLOSED for all students and staff.

Hertford County Public Schools: On Thursday, September 5, 2019, all schools will be released at 12:30 pm. On Friday, September 6, 2019, all schools and offices will be closed for staff and students due to the anticipated effects of Hurricane Dorian.  

Perquimans County Schools: All schools will be closed Thursday, September 5 through Friday, September 6, 2019, due to Hurricane Dorian.

Virginia:

Accomack County Public Schools: Due to inclement weather, all Accomack County Public Schools will be closed on Friday, September 6th, 2019 for all students, staff, and 12-month employees.

Chesapeake Public Schools: Thursday, Sept. 5 remains a full instructional day; however, all after-school and evening activities are canceled. Our schools will be closed on Friday, Sept. 6. 

Franklin City Public Schools: All public schools and offices will be closed Friday, September 6.

Hampton City Schools: All afterschool activities are canceled Thursday evening. Schools are closed on Friday, Sept. 6.

Isle of Wight County Schools: Due to the threat of hazardous weather, Isle of Wight County Schools is canceling all after school activities for today. In addition, all Isle of Wight County Schools and offices will be closed Friday, September 6.

Middlesex County Public Schools: MCPS will be closed Friday, September 6, 2019.

Newport News Schools: All afterschool activities and athletic events are canceled for Thursday, September 5, 2019, due to the forecast of heavy rain and flooding. All schools and offices are closed for Friday, September 6, including all scheduled afterschool activities and athletic events. Ten, eleven and twelve-month NNPS employees do not report on Friday. Employees assigned to a shelter shall report as requested.

Norfolk Public Schools: All after-school activities and athletic events will be canceled on Thursday. All NPS schools/facilities will be closed on Friday, September 6, 2019, for students and staff.  

Northampton Co Schools - VA: Closing Thursday at 2 p.m.

Portsmouth Public Schools: All schools and administrative offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, and all after-school activities are canceled through the weekend. Starting Sept. 5, the City of Portsmouth will be opening I.C. Norcom High School as a shelter. 

Suffolk Public Schools: All schools will dismiss early Thursday, Sept. 5. Middle schools will dismiss at 11:25 a.m. High schools will dismiss at 12:25 p.m. and elementary schools will dismiss at 1:15 p.m. All schools will serve lunch. All after-school and evening activities scheduled for Thursday will be canceled. Suffolk Public Schools will be closed Friday, September 6.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools: All afterschool activities are canceled Thursday evening. Schools will be closed on Friday, Sept. 6.

Williamsburg-James City County: Public schools and offices are closed for Friday, September 6. All after-school and weekend activities are canceled for Thursday through Sunday.

York County School Division: All afterschool and evening activities are canceled for Thursday, Sept. 5. All schools and offices will be closed Friday, Sept. 6. Afterschool activities on Friday will also be canceled.

Colleges and universities:

Christopher Newport University: CNU will close at midnight Friday and remain closed until Saturday. Friday classes and activities are canceled. Residence halls will remain open and meals served. Visit cnualert.info for more.

Bryant & Stratton College-Virginia Beach/ Hampton: Closed Friday

The College of William & Mary: The school will close at 7 p.m. Thursday and remain closed through Friday. All classes and activities are canceled. Essential personnel should check with their supervisors. The university is expected to reopen at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Eastern Virginia Medical School: EVMS/EVMS Medical Group will be closed Friday, September 6, 2019, due to the anticipated impact of Hurricane Dorian. There will be no student lectures or exams, and no clinical or resident operations in EVMS facilities. Residents/fellows assigned to non-EVMS facilities should follow the policies/procedures of their hosting facilities.

Norfolk State University: Evening classes are canceled on Thursday, September 5 and the school will be closed Friday, September 6. The university will reopen Saturday. Saturday's home-opening football game against VSU is still scheduled to proceed as planned, with kickoff slated for 6 p.m. Saturday.

Thursday's Heels and Helmets women's football clinic scheduled for Dick Price Stadium has been canceled. Friday's NSU Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony and Casino Royale scholarship fundraiser have been postponed and rescheduled for Friday, Sept. 27.

Old Dominion University: All classes, events, and activities are canceled at all ODU locations on Friday, September 6, including ODUOnline. For students staying on campus this weekend, residence halls will remain open and staffed. The Webb University Center will remain open for normal operating hours on Friday.

Thomas Nelson CC-All Campuses: Closed Friday

Tidewater Community College: TCC's campuses and locations will close at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 5 and remain closed on Friday. A determination of Saturday's operating schedule will be made on Friday afternoon. Students are asked to consult their syllabi or contact their professors for instructions on classes being canceled.
