Heavy rain moves through Hampton Roads Monday morning

But while it's a rainy start to the day, skies will clear late morning and into the afternoon.

NORFOLK, Va. — After severe storms moved through the region Sunday afternoon, Hampton Roads is getting another round of wet weather as heavy rain comes down Monday morning.

But while it's a rainy start to the day, skies will clear late morning and into the afternoon. It will be significantly cooler and the humidity levels will also be much more comfortable.

According to 13News Now's Weather Team, heavy rain fell over most of the region with some locations picking up more than two inches through early Monday morning.

The improving weather comes after Sunday saw the highs reach the mid to upper 90s with most of Hampton Roads experiencing heat index values between 105 to 110°. 13News Now's Weather had declared a Weather Alert Day for the hot temperatures and severe thunderstorms that rolled through.

The region was under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 11 p.m. Sunday for a storm system that also prompted several warnings.
