Frost advisory issued for parts of Hampton Roads as temperatures drop to 30s inland

The National Weather Service advises that frost could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered.

NORFOLK, Va. — A frost advisory was issued for parts of Hampton Roads and northeastern North Carolina as temperatures are expected to drop to the 30s in inland areas early Tuesday morning.

The advisory goes from 2 to 8 a.m. Tuesday and includes Suffolk, Chesapeake, Isle of Wight County, James City County, Westmoreland County, and Richmond County. Gates and Bertie counties in North Carolina are also included.

High pressure will settle over the area later tonight, allowing for a clear sky, light winds, and good radiational cooling. This will allow dew points to rise several degrees, into the lower 30s after sunset. As temperatures drop into the lower-to-middle 30s by morning, conditions will be conducive for frost formation.

A clear sky allows the heat from the day to radiate back out to space, producing a cold night.

13News Now meteorologists advise that frost could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered and a light freeze is possible in low-lying rural locations.
