NORFOLK, Va. — Snow blanketed much of our region on Thursday for the first time this year -- and more could be on the way!
Hopes for another winter wonderland might be crushed though as this round of wintry weather likely won't bring as much snowfall as the first.
The 13News Now weather team predicts that the next system will move into the area very late Saturday evening and through Sunday morning. It's expected to funnel some warm air into the region and mix with the cold air that developed late in the week.
Therefore, the system could unload a wintry mix in the form of rain, sleet and snow.
It's expected to warm up to the high 40s on Sunday, so don't expect any snow to stick to the ground. Because the system is bringing in that warmer air, the wintry mix is forecasted to make a changeover into just rain and wash everything out.
One model predicts we could see less than an inch of snow while a global track puts the accumulation at an inch or so.
Parts of northern Virginia, like Charlottesville, are expected to see heavier snowfall Saturday night into Sunday.
Then, it's more rain on Monday and there's a slight chance for some snow flurries on Tuesday. Our models and tracks will have a more accurate forecast for the beginning of next week within the next couple of days.
On Thursday, some localities got as much as three to four inches of snow. Virginia Beach got four inches, while areas like Chesapeake and Norview got three. Moyock, NC and Newport News received two inches.
