WASHINGTON, D.C., USA — Virginia Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced today that nearly $57 million in federal funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act would go toward improvements at three major airports in Virginia. Almost $15 million of that will be going toward Norfolk International Airport.

The funds -- $14,716,366 exactly -- will help to "support the realignment of the airport exclusive use access roadway to improve traffic flow into and out of the main terminal area" at Norfolk International, according to a joint release from the Senators.

Exactly $40 million will be going to Washington Dulles International Airport in Northern Virginia for the construction of a new 14-gate terminal building, while the remaining $2.25 million will be going to Richmond International Airport for a new security checkpoint that would reduce passenger congestion.

The funds come from the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Terminals program that aims to address aging infrastructure at airports across the country.

In early September, Virginia's senators allocated over $8.6 million to fix 3,000 feet of paved runway at Norfolk International.
