NORFOLK, Va. — As holiday air travel gets underway, many are anxious to leave town. But first, they must find somewhere to park at Norfolk International Airport (ORF).
"Parking is always hard. It usually takes me ten minutes to find a spot, so luckily, I found one," said traveler Adam Karides, who was rushing to catch his flight.
Meanwhile, other travelers like Omar Rodgers said finding parking was a challenge as many lots were closed.
"I heard about it on Channel 13News that the airport was going to be packed, talking about the airport was going to be packed and everything. You need to get there early, but I see what you all were talking about now," said Rodgers.
According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), more people are flying this Memorial Holiday weekend. ORF spokesperson Chris Jones told 13News Now he believes this year's airport will hit a record number of travelers compared to previous years.
"Based on the TSA projections, I expect this could be the busiest Memorial Day ever at this airport. This year, we're on track to do 5 million passengers. Pretty much every day, every month we're seeing new record volume, and Memorial Day is no exception," said Jones.
To beat the crowds and find a parking space, Jones recommends arriving at the airport earlier or reserving a parking space online.
However, Karides said he may choose another mode of transportation next time instead of driving to the airport to park.
"Public transportation would be nice. I would [take] an Uber if it were a longer trip, but for a couple of days isn't too bad," he said.
