NORFOLK, Va. — Virginia State Police are investigating a crash inside the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (HRBT) on Thursday morning.
Police responded to a single-vehicle crash around 7:30 a.m. When officers arrived they found that the driver of a 2017 Lexus SUV, 22-year-old Trinity Iris Down was driving down I-64 when she lost control of her vehicle and hit the jersey wall.
Down was seriously injured. She was transported to Norfolk Sentara Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
All westbound lanes were closed due to a crash, the Virginia Department of Transportation said. No information has been given on the cause of the eastbound closure.
Drivers were detoured to the Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel.
