NORTH CAROLINA, USA — As of Oct. 3, the entire Blue Ridge Parkway is shut down so crews can determine just how much damage was done to it after Hurricane Helene.
The National Park Service said in a statement that as of Thursday afternoon, 250 National Park Service employees from 32 states and the District of Columbia are working with Blue Ridge Parkway staff in the recovery efforts.
The most extensive damage appears to be between milepost 469 and milepost 280, or from the southernmost tip of the parkway to the tiny town of Laxon, NC. NPS called the damage "significant, and in some cases, catastrophic."
The National Park Service has not announced an official date for reopening.
