SOUTHAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- A large sinkhole has opened up on a road near the City of Suffolk.
Southampton Sheriff's Deputies were called out to the Southampton Parkway (Route 58) around 4:43 Tuesday morning in reference to a sinkhole in the right lane on the eastbound side.
Officials say the sinkhole is about 15'x20' and about 15 feet deep. The Virginia Department of Transportation is on scene, working to repair the hole. There's no word on how long that lane of travel will be closed.
Three vehicles suffered flat tires as a result of the hole before it fully opened up. No injuries are reported.
