VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Drivers in Virginia Beach should expect a new traffic pattern on part of Laskin Road.
Crews have shifted the westbound lanes about 20 feet to the right between First Colonial and Republic roads, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
It's all part of the Laskin Road Bridge Replacement and Widening Project.
The change is temporary, but will likely be in place until sometime this fall. It will give crews the space they need to do utility work and construct turn lanes and a median.
There will be single-lane closures on Laskin Road as crews implement the new traffic pattern. VDOT said people who need to get to businesses in that area will have the access they need.
VDOT also warns drivers to be extra cautious and travel no faster than 35 mph through the work zone. According to state data, there have been at least 32 crashes on the road so far this year.
The entire project is expected to be completed by the spring of 2025.
