VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Virginia Beach Police Department said a man died in a multi-vehicle crash on North Great Neck Road on Monday.
Traffic in the 1600 block of N. Great Neck Road, near Shorehaven Drive, was shut down for hours following the 6:45 p.m. crash.
In a Tuesday afternoon update, investigators said the crash likely happened when a Ford truck driving northbound veered into southbound lanes of traffic, slamming into a vehicle.
The impact from that crash pushed the victim's vehicle into another car driving southbound, police said. Then, cars behind them ran into debris from the crash.
The police department said the Virginia Beach Fire Department and EMS teams helped with the scene.
The Fire Department had to pull the driver of the Ford Truck out from where he had been pinned, and EMS took him to a local hospital.
The man who died was identified as John Hefti, 58, from Virginia Beach. Police didn't say what type of vehicle he was driving.
Officials are still investigating the crash.
