NORFOLK, Va. — A 17-year-old was seriously injured in a vehicle crash in Norfolk Tuesday night, police said.
The crash happened in the 6500 block of Chesapeake Boulevard, which is in the Norview area of the city. A report of a single-vehicle crash came in shortly after 10:15 p.m., according to the Norfolk Police Department.
When they arrived police found that the driver had hit a column. A 17-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.
The driver and another passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators believe that speed was a factor in the accident. They are continuing to investigate the crash.
The lanes of Chesapeake Boulevard were closed Tuesday night as police officers worked to clear the area. As of 5:30 a.m., the road is back open, according to Norfolk dispatchers.
