Man seriously hurt after crashing into tree in Chesapeake, police say

Shortly after 9 a.m., police were still rerouting traffic in the area while they looked into the cause of the crash.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A man is seriously hurt after a vehicle crash Friday morning in Chesapeake, according to police. 

The collision happened around 6:45 a.m. in the area of Geneva Avenue and Canal Drive. 

When officers arrived, they found an SUV that had crashed into a tree.

That's in the Deep Creek North area of the city. 

Firefighters had to work to remove the man from the SUV, and he was taken to the hospital in critical condition. 

His name has not been released at this time. 

Shortly after 9 a.m., police were still rerouting traffic in the area while they looked into the cause of the crash.
