NORFOLK, Va. — The man who died in a 5-vehicle crash that blocked off a section of Jefferson Avenue on Sunday has been named, the Newport News Police Department said.
The department said the crash happened in the area of Habersham Drive, and one of the vehicles hit a tree.
The department said a 26-year-old man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and a minor was sent to the hospital, but is expected to be okay.
The 26-year-old man later died at the hospital.
He's been identified as Omarye Jalin Durant Watford, 26, of Newport News.
The cause of the accident is not known at this time.
The investigation into the situation was ongoing Sunday morning, and Northbound and Southbound Jefferson Avenue was closed between Brick Kiln and Bland boulevards.
The road was cleared by noon Sunday, the department said, and the investigation was still ongoing.
