JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. — Interstate 64 in James City County reopened all lanes Tuesday evening following an earlier rollover crash that spilled diesel fuel on the roadway, according to Virginia State Police (VSP).

In a social media post, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) said the crash happened near Exit 234 (Route 199/Lightfoot) around noon.

The crash happened when police say a commercial motor vehicle's tire blew out, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle went off the roadway and into a median before rolling multiple times.

The driver was rushed to Riverside Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

Diesel fuel spilled in the crash, prompting a hazmat clean-up that required the roadway to be shut down for several hours. All lanes officially reopened just before 4:40 p.m., however.
