NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Financial problems continue for Hampton Roads Transit.
The agency missed their budget by millions last year, and are expected to miss it again this year.
One of the contributing factors: expensive paratransit services, which is used to transport people with disabilities. Beginning Saturday, the transit agency will begin using local taxis to supplement the service.
The service has had steady growth in recent years, with about 323,000 people using paratransit services annually.
Cabs picking up customers will display an HRT and a paratransit logo, in addition to the regular company badging.
Anyone with questions about the service can contact the HRT Customer Service Line at 757-222-6100 or visit HRT's website.
