NORFOLK, Va. — Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) has made changes to the Elizabeth River Ferry's route amid dock issues at the Norfolk Waterside stop.
As of early Thursday morning, the route's only Norfolk stop will be at the Harbor Park ferry landing. This will be in place until the Waterside stop is deemed safe to access by the city. HRT has said there is an issue with the Waterside dock, but has not elaborated.
Over on the Portsmouth side, all services will be consolidated to the High Street stop. The North Landing stop won't be used for now.
How will the Elizabeth River Ferry service work in the meantime?
The first ferry will depart Portsmouth at 5:30 a.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. on weekends through Memorial Day, when some trips increase to 15-minute increments, according to HRT.
Once the ferry arrives at Harbor Park, they will be directed by signs to The Tide light rail station, where it can take people to Downtown Norfolk.
For those going to Portsmouth from Norfolk, people can ride The Ride to the Harbor Park station, then follow signs to the ferry, HRT said.
According to HRT, ferry fares will be honored on the light rail, so only one ticket is needed.
