Changes coming to I-64 in Chesapeake

The changes are being rolled out ahead of the toll-free testing period in Chesapeake.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Drivers may soon notice changes along Interstate 64 in Chesapeake as signage, pavement markings and white posts are unveiled for the new HOV Express Lanes, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

In a release on Thursday, VDOT said double white lines and white lines have already been installed for stretches of I-64 between the Bowers Hill Interchange and the High Rise Bridge.

The changes are being rolled out ahead of the toll-free testing period in Chesapeake. VDOT said the toll-free period is intended to allow time for drivers to familiarize themselves with the new lanes.

Then, beginning as early as spring, drivers will have to pay tolls on the lanes.
