NORFOLK, Va. — All lanes of Hampton Boulevard are back open after an overturned tractor-trailer stopped traffic in Norfolk Monday afternoon.
According to an alert from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Norfolk Fire-Rescue, it happened around 2:20 p.m. at the intersection with Gresham Drive, which is right next to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
When police arrived, they found the driver pinned inside the semi. They pulled him from the vehicle safely and took him to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Shortly before 5 p.m., authorities removed the overturned semi from the tunnel, but traffic remained backed up outside the Midtown Tunnel.
It's not immediately clear what caused the truck to overturn. The tractor-trailer is from the transport trucking company C. Gilliam, which operates out of Portsmouth. 13News Now reached out to them about the accident but they did not have any comment.
