NORFOLK, Va. — It just got a little easier for Norfolk Tides fans to get to the baseball team's home games.
Hampton Roads Transit (HRT), the City of Norfolk and the Norfolk Tides baseball team are teaming up to give fans free rides on The Tide light rail for every Tides home game this season.
Baseball fans can travel for free to and from Harbor Park during the 75 regular home games. The free rides are available two hours before the first pitch and two hours after the game.
Riders need to show their baseball game ticket for a free ride to and from the stadium. Those attending games are encouraged to look over the Tides' bag policy before hopping on their ride.
Because of limited on-site parking at Harbor Park, fans are encouraged to use transit to avoid congestion, avoid parking fees and to save time.
Fans can park for free at these four park-and-ride lots by Tide light rail stations:
- Newtown Road Station, Newtown Road and Kempsville Road
- Military Highway Station, Curlew Drive and Corporate Boulevard
- Ballentine/Broad Creek Station, Ballentine Boulevard and I-264
- VMC/Fort Norfolk Station, Brambleton and Colley Avenues (Parking is not allowed on weeknights at this location)
To kick off this collaboration, HRT is giving riders a chance to take pictures with their Gus the Bus mascot and enter giveaways. Fans can catch this celebration at the Ballentine Road/Broad Creek Station on the Norfolk Tides' opening night, Friday, March 29, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The Norfolk Tides' schedule is available here. Tickets are available at the Harbor Park box office or online.
