VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia State Police says the holiday rush might be picking up, but that's no reason you shouldn't slow down!

A trooper issued a ticket to a speeder in Virginia Beach over the weekend that claims the driver was going 133 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.

State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya previously told 13News Now that troopers "stop those types of speeds every single day."

VSP will on occasion post examples of extreme speeding tickets on social media to highlight the kinds of traffic stops state troopers face in Hampton Roads, and "making the public aware that speed does kill," Anaya said.

According to Virginia law, anyone driving 20 miles above the speed limit or more than 85 miles per hour, regardless of the speed limit, can be charged with a Class 1 misdemeanor. The offense also could include fines and possibly jail time.
