NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Traffic was brought to a standstill on southbound Interstate 664, following a crash at the Monitor-Merrimac Bridge-Tunnel on Friday morning.
The crash happened at College Drive, on the Suffolk side of the bridge. After about an hour where traffic was brought to a halt, officials re-opened the Interstate and lifted the detour at Terminal Boulevard. Backups extend approximately four miles to Aberdeen, but are clearing quickly.
Drivers are advised to use the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel or James River Bridge as alternate routes.
