HAMPTON, Va. — An accident in the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel delayed traffic on I-64 East, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
VDOT says a mutli-vehicle crash closed all east-bound lanes around 11:30 a.m., backing up traffic for about 2 miles.
As of 12:00 p.m., that accident has since cleared and the east-bound traffic lanes have reopened, but congestion in the tunnel is still backed up traffic in Hampton for about 3 miles.
Meanwhile, the public information officer for Virginia State Police shared there was a multi-vehicle crash in the west-bound lanes of the HRBT just before 11:30 a.m. Three or four cars were involved, and injuries were reported, though it is unclear how many people were hurt how severe those injuries were.
As of 2:30 p.m. the west-bound lanes of the HRBT reopened, but drivers can still expect delays, as backups were estimated to be about 4.5 miles by VDOT.
