SMITHFIELD, Va. — Crews are working to restore the internet to hundreds of households in Smithfield and Carrollton after a fiber optic line was damaged.
According to a Smithfield public information officer, Charter Communications reported that one of its fiber optic lines sustained some damage overnight Monday into Tuesday, which triggered a massive internet outage.
There's no word yet on when the problem will be fixed, but crews have been deployed and are working to repair the optic line and reestablish service.
Some areas may have not been affected by the outage due to a more sizable optic line presence.
