NORFOLK, Va. — Hybrid electric Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee vehicles are being recalled, Chrysler announced.

On Sept. 27, Chrysler issued a recall for over 154,000 hybrid electric Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee for fire risk. The high-voltage battery may fail and cause a fire while it is parked or driving.

The recalled vehicles include:

  • 2020-2024 Jeep Wrangler PHEVs (118,230 potentially impacted units)
  • 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee PHEVs (36,802 potentially impacted units)

All owners of affected vehicles will be notified via mail by Oct. 17.

The National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) says if you own one of these models, park your vehicle outside and away from structures and other vehicles until your vehicle has been remedied.

In addition, NHTSA said not to charge unrepaired vehicles because the risk of a fire is higher in higher-charged batteries, and the risk of fire decreases when the battery is depleted.
