Chesapeake's Holloway has eyes set on gold at the Paris Olympics

Grant Holloway ran three sub-13 second times in the men's 110m hurdles at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field trials last month.

With three days remaining before the opening ceremonies of the 2024 Olympics from Paris, one local athlete is en route and ready to go. Chesapeake's Grant Holloway is the premiere men's 110m hurdler in the world.

It was on full display last month at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field trials when the former Grassfield Grizzly ran three sub-13 second times in the event. In the finals his time was 12.86 seconds which was the second fastest of his career.

"If I could bottle this and literally just have the same thing happen at the Olympic Games, I think that would be great", he said. "But we live in a reality where we can't do that."

At the trials in the 110 meter finals, Holloway wasn't alone. Freddie Crittenden and Daniel Roberts also ran sub-13s. He says he thinks of the event like another sport which you also go for lower numbers.

"It's just like golf", he says. "Once you get about 150 yards in, you want to be able to drop it on the green. Regardless if it's an ugly shot so I need to do this and get it on the green and that's kind of how I see hurdling. Every time I step on the track, if I do this, this and this, I know I can run a sub-13."

As the 26-year-old continues to do amazing things in his event, he wants to do even more. Like redefine it.

"I tell myself every day, I am a trailblazer for the 110 meter hurdles", he said. "I think I'm going to be the one that everybody is like, man you had to be there to watch that kid."
