VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — It’s an early taste of the Olympics in Hampton Roads on Friday.
Two of the top beach volleyball players in the world stopped by Rosemont Boys & Girls Club in Virginia Beach to show off their skills and introduce a group of young kids to a sport that doesn’t get as much attention as it deserves.
Taylor Sander and Taylor Crabb are Olympic beach volleyball players, and AVP pros, who travel all over the country and world playing the sport they love.
Corey Maes with Celebrity SideOut Volleyball brought them to Hampton Roads this weekend for an exhibition with local players.
But before that event on Saturday, the Hawaii and California natives are at the Boys & Girls Club gym showing kids new to the sport how to bump, set, and spike.
“We’re just taking our free time to come and try and put a smile on their faces,” said Sander.
Crabb and Sander spent well over an hour exposing the group to the sport that’s brought them so much in life - friends, Olympic medals, successful careers, and philanthropy.
“We’re trying to grow the game on a national level,” said Crabb. “We’re happy to be here, and hopefully the kids are having fun too.
Growing up, for most of us, only a handful of moments stand out and leave a lasting impression on our lives.
Spending the morning with two of the best volleyball players in the world – was one of those moments.
You have the chance to watch Taylor Crabb and Taylor Sander in person.
Saturday, they’ll play against top local talent at the Tidewater Volleyball Association in Virginia Beach.
Doors open at noon, and the event is free to spectators.
