HOUSTON, Texas — The Old Dominion women's basketball team had its seven-game winning streak snapped by league leader Rice, 48-42, on Saturday afternoon at Tudor Fieldhouse.

Old Dominion (16-6, 7-3) held a 21-17 lead at the half, but Rice (18-3, 9-0) outscored the Monarchs, 31-21, in the second half, including a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter that proved to be the difference. Victoria Morris led all scorers with 20 points.

It was a defensive battle between the two teams, who both entered the game as two of the hottest teams in the conference. The Owls, who received votes in the latest AP Top 25, have now won 11 straight and are the lone undefeated team remaining in Conference USA. Both teams shot under 30 percent from the field, with the Monarchs at 23 percent and Rice at 28 percent.

Rice had a +4 advantage in rebounding, while ODU outscored the Owls, 14-10, in the paint, despite the presence of the 6-9 Nancy Mulkey, who entered the contest averaging four blocks per game. Maggie Robinson chipped in eight points for the Monarchs, while Taylor Edwards had five points and six rebounds.
