NORFOLK, Va. — Two of the three famed Davis brothers are back in the boxing ring this holiday weekend.
Norfolk natives Keyshawn and Kelvin Davis will be fighting on Saturday, July 6 from Newark, New Jersey as part of the Shakur Stevenson undercard.
Kelvin, a junior welterweight (12-0, 8 knockouts) known as "Nite Nite", will face Kevin Johnson (12-3, 8 knockouts).
Fighting on the same night as his younger brother has been helpful for Kelvin.
"This is like our fifth time fighting under the same card," Kelvin said from his training site in Colorado Springs, Colorado. "We're kind of used to it now and then in training camp, we get to push each other. We get to spar each other. I just feel like it's comfortable now."
Kevlin said his opponent hasn't fought since 2022. Back on December 17 of that year, the 31-year-old Johnson, nicknamed "Thunderstorm", lost a unanimous decision against Christian Baez.
Davis hopes rust will play a factor, however, he subscribes to former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson's theory of preparing for a fight. Tyson famously said, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”
"Anything can change once you get into that ring," he said. "A guy could fight somebody else a certain way, but when they get in the ring with us, he can try and fight me a totally different way so you just have to be prepared for everything fight night."
