VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The driver who died in a chase through multiple cities in Virginia more than a week ago has been publicly identified as a New York resident.
In a release on Saturday, Virginia State Police (VSP) identified the driver as 33-year-old Quadri Jackson of Brooklyn, New York.
Police said Jackson is also the suspect of a stabbing and vehicle theft in Brooklyn that happened the same day as the pursuit.
The pursuit on Feb. 23 started in Exmore, Virginia when state police tried to pull over a Chevrolet pickup truck they say was exceeding 90 mph in a 55 mph zone. The driver of the vehicle, later confirmed to be Jackson, however, kept driving, prompting a chase that Northampton County Sheriff's Department joined.
When Jackson approached the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, Northampton law enforcement ended their chase. Once Jackson made it across the bridge and into Virginia Beach, VSP said troopers took the lead again.
The chase continued onto Shore Drive where Jackson lost control of the vehicle and drove into the tree line near Atlantic Avenue.
VSP said troopers treated Jackson at the scene but he ultimately died.
No one else was in the vehicle when the crash occurred.
