NORFOLK, Va. — Technically, Kiersten Michel is a freshman bowler at Norfolk State this year.
"It's going good. It's different from high school, but not in a bad way. It's more fast paced than high school," Michel says she enjoys the speed of college life, "it's more at my pace, so I can do the work at my pace, which I like."
Despite the quick adjustment, Michel is actually supposed to be a senior at Western Branch High School in Chesapeake. She graduated in just 3 years, and plans to do the same at Norfolk State. This doesn't come as a big surprise once you get to know Kiersten.
"She's very analytical, so anything that she puts her mind to she tries to break down to the simplest form to excel at it, and she does," says Kiersten's dad Anthony.
Whether it's figuring out the proper launch angle while bowling, or in classes for her computer science major, Michel is a problem solver.
She hasn't just hit the ground running with college life, she's had a fast start with college athletics as well. In the team's opening tournament this spring, she led the Spartans with a 192.2 average. Based on everything we learned about Kiersten Michel, that score will only go up from here.
