Norfolk Academy's Earp making an early impression on the girls cross country team

Jane Earp is looking to lead the Bulldogs to a third straight Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools title.

NORFOLK, Va. — There's a saying, "To whom much is given, much is required". Jane Earp has shown that level ability in leading the Norfolk Academy girls cross country team. The Bulldogs are trying to chase down a third straight Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools title.

Her running career didn't quite start that way. "I was not in love with running when I started", she said. "It's just kind of the thing I just did, because my sister did it".

That has since changed. "I think it's really easy to be confident when you've got a strong pack of girls with you", she says. "Our team has really grown over the past couple of years".

Head coach Patrick Fernando sees that Earp has a vast amount of wisdom for here age. "She's a student of the sport", he says. "The talent side of it is incredible".

Earp came into her sophomore year with some impressive credentials. She won the TCIS title as a freshman wound up 6th in the state. Earp's passion for the sport has since grown tenfold. She's the youngest of four girls in her family and found competitive path.

"Throughout the journey and especially through the downs and through the breaks when I'm not running is when I've fallen in love with it". 

It won't be a surprise that carries Earp through here remaining two years at the school.
