CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Indian River and Deep Creek went back and forth the majority of the first half in their Southeastern District showdown Saturday. With the game moved back a day due to Friday weather, both teams looked fresh and played physical despite an uncharacteristically hot late September afternoon.
The Braves led 21-10 entering the halftime locker room, with Indian River using some explosive pass plays to maintain their lead.
In the second half it was the Indian River defense that would truly take control. They held the Hornets to just 39 yards in the final two quarters, and no scores.
Meanwhile the offense stayed hot, with 28 second half points for a 49-10 win.
Next up for Indian River is King's Fork in a massive District showdown. It's a rematch of one of the best games of last season, a double overtime Bulldogs win. The victor will have an inside track at a district title.
Deep Creek will look to build on Saturday's strong first half in their game against Hickory.
