CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Hickory softball’s Cali Megaro doesn’t like to share.
“I definitely get asked if I like having my own room and yes, I do,” she joked. “I love having my own room. It gets quiet sometimes and I just like the peace.”
Luckily for Cali, in her family, she falls in the sweet spot.
“I am a middle child. My brothers are twins that are two years older than me, and my sisters are twins that are four years younger.”
It comes with its own unique advantages such as independence but she’s far from alone when it comes to softball.
“If you see them in the crowd, you get all excited and it motivates you more. It was always softball for me. I’ve been playing since I was like 5. It started with tee ball,” she recalled. “My parents played. My dad played minor league ball and my mom played college softball. I definitely try to be there for my sisters and brothers.”
And that won’t be hard come the fall. Cali is headed to play for Virginia Wesleyan but she’s not just joining a premiere Division III softball program. She’s also joining her twin brothers who play baseball for the Marlins.
“I didn’t want to go to Wesleyan at first, I wanted to go far away. But I went there for a visit one day and ended up really liking the school.”
So, expect the stands to still be packed with the Megaro clan.
“You can hear my dad across the whole field because he says the most embarrassing stuff.”
But it's all out of love.
“I’ll definitely miss them more than they think.”
